Ceva is recognized as an expert in small ruminants reproduction. Innovation has been the driver for Ceva when developing products for small ruminant veterinarians and producers. The use of melatonin (MELOVINE^®/REGULIN^®) as a reproductive tool is also a proof of different and innovative approach to small ruminants reproduction management. As experts in progesterone intravaginal devices, Ceva developed the SYNCROPART^® sponges for reproduction management in sheep and goats. SYNCROPART^® protocols include also SYNCROPART^® PMSG.

Ceva has collaborated over the years with scientists and veterinary practitioners in increasing the knowledge in the field of small ruminant reproduction. This has resulted in the publication of scientific papers in different journals. Regularly the company is involved in educational programs and organizes scientific events that contribute to expand the knowledge among veterinarians. Tools, such as smartphone/tablet apps, have been developed to help veterinarian and farmers in the reproductive management of their flocks. The product range:

• MELOVINE^® / REGULIN^® (melatonin implant): small ruminants have a seasonal reproduction rhythm that depends on daylight’s length. Sexual activity manifests itself, depending on the breed, as the days get shorter (autumn). MELOVINE^® / REGULIN^® is an implant that releases melatonin (a natural substance secreted by the brain during the night) progressively and at sufficiently concentrations for a period of 70 to 90 days to simulate the shortening of the days. Positioned at the base of the ear of the animals the implant does not need to be removed, as it is biodegradable. In small ruminants females, it induces œstrus and ovarian activity 50 to 70 days after implantation. In males the use of the implant increases sexual activity during the anoestrus season and increases the quality and quantity of the sperm.
• SYNCRO PART^® sponges (flugestone): after the insertion of the sponge, the flugestone released mimics the action of natural progesterone and blocks the sexual cycle. When the sponge is removed, the drop in serum flugestone levels triggers œstrus. The SYNCRO-PART^® sponge, associated with SYNCRO-PART^® PMSG induces and synchronise heat in the sexual season or out of season. This opens up the possibility of bringing the service period of small ruminants forward and grouping the arrival of the lambs.
• SYNCROSTIM^® / SYNCRO PART^® PMSG (eCG): it is used in combination with SYNCRO PART^®sponges in small ruminants.
