Libourne, August 06th 2012: Newcastle Disease (ND) and Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) are amongst the most damaging diseases to poultry production, particularly broiler production. ND can induce subclinical challenges to the respiratory complex, causing heavy losses in countries facing velogenic challenges. IBD represents a continuous threat to the broiler immune system and to production performance all around the world.

Achieving a higher, homogenous level of protection against both diseases would be a major step forwards for broiler production and profitability. 

Vaccinating against Newcastle and Gumboro disease has always been difficult for broiler producers because of the heterogeneity created by varying MDA levels in chicks, as well as potential post vaccination reactions induced by conventional vaccines.

In the recent past, hatchery vaccination against IBD with Immune Complex vaccines (Transmune® IBD) has resulted in an increasing level and homogeneity of protection. Better vaccine administration, thanks to hatchery vaccination, as well as Immune Complex technology, breaking through the MDA barrier, has tremendously improved the immunity created through IBD vaccination in comparison to conventional field application.
